Amit wants to take his granny to Australia which is in the southern hemisphere. But she cannot bear very cold weather. When should they make this trip ?
Ans. Amit and his granny should make the trip to Australia during their summer, which is our winter. This way, they can avoid the cold weather and enjoy a more pleasant climate in the southern hemisphere.

(a) How many rotations does the earth complete during one revolution around the sun?
Ans. The Earth completes one full rotation every day, which gives us day and night.
It takes about 365 days for the Earth to go around the Sun once, and during that time, the Earth rotates about 365 times on its axis.
(b) It is sunrise at Itanagar in Arunachal Pradesh. Write the names of the following cities in the order in which the sun will rise there. Mumbai (Maharashtra), Kolkata (West Bengal), Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh), Nagpur (Maharashtra).
Ans. The order of sunrise in the given cities is: Kolkata, Mumbai, Nagpur, Bhopal.

Q.4 What is meant by each of the following terms?
(a) Full moon: A full moon happens when the entire face of the moon that we can see from Earth is fully lit up by the sun. It looks like a bright, round circle in the night sky.
(b) New moon: A new moon is when the moon appears completely dark in the night sky. This happens because the side facing the Earth is not lit up by the sun.
(c) Lunar month: The period from one new moon to the next is of 28 - 30 days. It is called the lunar month.
(d) Tithi: Every day of the lunar month is called a tithi.
Q.5 Answer the following questions.
(a) What is the equator?
Ans. If a circle was drawn around the surface of the earth exactly in between the north and south poles, it would divide the earth into two equal parts. This imaginary circle is called the ‘equator.
(b) What are the two parts of the earth made by the equator?
Ans. The two equal parts it makes of the earth are called the northern hemisphere and the southern hemisphere respectively.
