Our Earth and Our Solar System - Standard 5 - EVS part 1
Our Earth and Our Solar System
Exercise
Q.1 What's the solution?
One of the asteroids has fallen out of its place in the asteroid belt and is hurtling toward the sun. Our earth is in its way and there is all likelihood of a collision. What can be done to prevent this collision?
Ans. If an asteroid is heading towards the Sun and might collide with Earth, scientists will study its path to figure out if it's really going to hit us. If they find that it is going to hit us, they might try to change the asteroid's path by sending a spacecraft to it. This spacecraft could push the asteroid slightly off course so that it misses Earth. This way, we can prevent a collision and keep Earth safe.
Q.2 Use your brain power!
(1) What will happen to our solar system if the sun were to suddenly disappear ?
Ans. If the sun disappeared, planets would go off course, and Earth would become very cold and dark. Life would not survive without the sun's warmth and light.
(2) Suppose you want to give your address to a friend you have on the planet Mars. How will you write your address if you want them to understand exactly where you live ?
Ans. If I wanted to give my address to a friend on Mars, I would need to consider that they might not be familiar with Earth's geographical system. To make it understandable, I would use simple and universal references. Here's an example:
Name: [Your Name] Planet: Earth Continent: [Continent Name, e.g., Asia] Country: [Country Name, e.g., India] City/Town: [City/Town Name] Street Address: [Street Address, House/Apartment Number] Postal Code: [Postal Code]
Q.3 In the picture below, correct the sequence of the planets from the sun.
Ans
Q.4 Who am I ?
(a) You can see me from the earth but the lighted part of me that you see changes every day.
Ans. The Moon.
(b) I have my own light. It is only from me that the planets get light and heat.
Ans. The Sun.
(c) I turn around myself, around a planet and also around a star.
Ans. A satellite.
(d) I turn around myself and revolve around the sun.
Ans. A planet.
(e) No other planet has a living world like mine.
Ans. The Earth.
(f) I am the nearest star to the earth.
Ans. The Sun.
Q.5
(a) For what purpose are rockets used in space travel ?
Ans.
1. Launch spacecraft and satellites into space.
2. Explore and study other planets.
3. Conduct scientific research in space.
4. Enable global communication through satellites.
(b) What information do man-made satellites provide ?
1. Weather data and forecasting.
2. GPS navigation and location services.
3. Communication signals for TV, internet, and phones.
4. Earth observation for monitoring and mapping.
